Random Page: FireFox 3.0 Extension
News 08/09/2009 : The extension has been made open source and has been hosted in Google Code at this location http://code.google.com/p/randompage/. I couldn't find time to upgrade the extension. Please feel free to contribute and find time to upgrade the extension.
Internet is a huge treasure chest, you never know what you will Stumble upon. But I have always wondered how difficult it is to get to an absolutely random page on the internet without any human inputs on the context.
Turns out to be pretty simple, a few 100 lines of JavaScript, a powerful Web Search API and some XUL spice. The result is a small, yet powerful FireFox extension, which on click of a button or the command Ctrl + '/' key (or View > Random Page) loads a random page from the internet on your Firefox browser.
If you are like me, feeling lazy and plan on wandering on the web, then this is going to be of great help.
Note: The extension filters away porn and hate related sites for now. (Feature provided by underlying search api). I will make these configurable in future releases
New Looks!
Well the page says it all! Notionforge now has its new looks, thanks to Russian Web Studio for making this theme publicly available (took the liberty to change certain things ;) ).
Drupal has been kind to me, but the default Garland theme was putting me off, I wanted something professional and ended up having this Analytic theme; I love integration projects, touch wood, things have been smooth so far. Have done some major enhancements as well,
- Added TinyMCE WYSIWIG editor for, content editing, posting comments etc., (try this, you should see a cool toolbar to help you out), makes editing a breeze
- Added Forums support.
- Comments without Login!
Things kept me from completing my blog on Functional Programming aspects of Erlang, let me give it a try tomorrow, until then keep visiting, adding comments! Enjoy the day!
What the Fish is Erlang?
An introductory guide to Erlang programming language,
Majority of computing engineers especially software ones have been putting off the parallel thingy for quiet some time, but the limits of transistor and silicon are pushing us to the edge, we can't escape for long! Gone are the days when parallel, concurrent processing were confined to the supercomputing shops. With desktops, mobile, and hand held devices now loaded with multi-core silicon, we'll have to accept the inalienable truth that we all are going to design and program in parallel to leverage these hardware advancements; Also its not fair to let the hardware engineers take away all the fun.
Welcoming New Year 2009
Wish you all a happy and prosperous new year 2009!
2008 has been bit hard on everyone of us around the globe, many of us has been impacted directly or indirectly by the global financial meltdown, Mumbai terrorist attacks, Sichuan earthquake yet all. But as I always believe 'Crisis is an opportunity in disguise' , 2008 has demonstrated the very same, we have been holding up these difficult times with hope and trust that things will change or we will make it change.
There were many joyful moments as well, United States made history electing an African-American as its new Commander-in-Chief; a Man of Change and Hope, a great Olympics at Beijing, India's Chandrayaan-I, astonishing science feats in Large Hardon Collider and countless others.
I hope 2009 would be a year of prosperity and joy for all of us, a year that will let us enjoy the power and beauty of our lives. Will make us realize how much possibility lay before us, make us more adventurous, keep us from wasting time on jealousy, hatred and failures, get us more achievements, friends and inspiration. Now enjoy one of the inspirational videos I look back always to cheer myself up in times of joy and pain, this is actually an essay written by Mary Schmich written in ChicagoTribune during 1997, later it was popularized by Buz Luhrman's music in 1999...
